Welcome to Work Related Learning. This resource provides lesson plans and worksheets along with links to other resources to help deliver the QCA’s Work Related Learning framework.

This resource has been designed to provide a general introduction to work related learning including the skills of enterprise. The strength of this resource is that it uses real companies, in real workplaces, solving real problems. The resource comprises a lesson plan and a worksheet structured by the framework.

The Davies Review defines enterprise capability as the capability to handle uncertainty and respond positively to change, to create and implement new ideas and new ways of doing things, to make reasonable risk/reward assessments and act upon them in one’s personal and working life.

Ofsted has published instructions on how they are inspecting Work Related Learning this academic year and beyond. These instructions can be found on pages 7-8 and 23-26 of update 45 which is downloadable from the link below :

The format is a lesson in three main parts with an additional, extension, activity. The three main parts are:

1. Introduction or ‘starter’ activity
2. Development
3. Conclusion or plenary

The Lessons are structured to meet the elements of the QCA Work Related Learning framework, which can be accessed here (see pages 5 and 6).

Each Lesson Plan contains:

a) Links to other subjects
b) Preparation
c) Differentiated target
d) Further information and/or suggestions for delivery for each part of the lesson
e) Expected outcomes.

Worksheets are provided for each lesson. Both lesson plans and worksheets may be downloaded as Word documents and have areas for students to insert answers. When using printouts of the worksheets, you will also need to print out the Case Studies linked from the worksheets. All materials can be photocopied for use in educational establishments.
